Fluorite and Calcite

WE 20-8, September 2019

Location:

Weisseck, Lungau, Salzburg, Austria

Description:

The only specimen with a slate matrix from this find that is in my collection. There are countless small clear quartz crystals up to 2 mm on the slate matrix. A very interesting aspect of this piece: the fluorite cube is only about 1 cm thick. That actually means it can be considered a fluorite plate. I cannot answer whether the back is crystallized or broken because the crystal is completely embedded in calcite. The front shows the typical square texture for this find and the usual good gloss. The colors under UV lighting are similar to others from this find.

Size: 11.4 x 10.5 x 7 cm
