Fluorite
WE 9–1, 2015
Location:
Ice Cleft, Weisseck, Lungau, Salzburg, Austria
Description:
One of the most beautiful specimens from the Ice Cleft: highly glossy, transparent cyan blue fluorites with an edge length of up to 2.9 cm. Th color is breathtakingly intense, and reminiscent of the color of clear sea water when perfectly calm. Some fluorites show lighter zoning on the edges. The surfaces are high-gloss and very lively reflective ? due to fine square texture. The termination is razor-sharp - the largest crystal shows a facet on the edges. Some crystals partially change color to a light beige, or are covered with a second generation of high-gloss beige fluorite. The piece was found in August 2014 in the floor area of the large rear cavern in the Ice Cleft. It was published Supplement to The Mineralogical Record, November-December, 2015 volume 46, number 6.
Size: 15 x 12 x 6.5 cm
