Fluorite

WE 9–20, 2010

Location:

Ice Cleft, Weisseck, Lungau, Salzburg, Austria

Description:

This piece is a great rarity for the Weisseck: countless spherical and kidney-shaped fluorites with a diameter of up to 3.5 cm that are partly covered with a small second-generation of cube-shaped fluorites. A fluorite cube with a diameter of approximately 7 cm dominates the center of the piece. The fluorite in the middle shows a multi-stepped edge growth and a parquet structure. The surfaces are high-gloss with an inconspicuous violet-gray color. The piece was found in September 2010 about 3 meters deep from the entrance in the right floor area. Directly above this were purple, highly lustrous druse-shaped fluorites (WE 9–25, WE 9–37, WE 9–38).

Size: 19.8 x 14 x 9 cm
