WE 9–15, 2015
Location:
Ice Cleft, Weisseck, Lungau, Salzburg, Austria
Description:
An unusual one-off piece from the Ice Cleft: blue fluorite with a 1 mm thick yellowish to grey enamel-like fluorite layer on the crystal surface. When viewed through transmitted light, the fluorite shows an extraordinary blue color. The crystal surfaces are highly glossy with a parquet-like structure. The main crystal in the upper area measures exactly 4 cm in diameter. A single calcite crystal sits cheekily on the main crystal. This piece comes from the lower area of the large rear cavern in the Ice Cleft - about 18 meters from the entrance. It was found in August 2015.
