Fluorite and Calcite
WE 9–14, 2011
Location:
Ice Cleft, Weisseck, Lungau, Salzburg, Austria
Description:
This piece comes from about 2 meters deep from the entrance on the lower left side. It comes from the small pocket in September 2011 that saved our collecting season after over 20 unsuccessful tours (also WE 9-13 and WE 9-31). The specimen offers transparent, cyan to greenish fluorites up to 5 cm. The surfaces are high-gloss with a very lively shine due to fine square texture. The edges are multiple stepped with a very nice square texture. Some fluorites change color to a light beige in some areas. This beige coloring arises from a thin layer on the surface - in transmitted light the fluorite shows a green color here. A second generation of smaller high-gloss light-purple fluorites has grown in the upper area from the specimen. Individual bright calcites make the piece even more attractive and can be seen as a distinctive feature of the Weisseck.
Size: 24 x 21 x 9 cm
