Fluorite and Calcite
WE 9–13, 2011
Location:
Ice Cleft, Weisseck, Lungau, Salzburg, Austria
Description:
This fantastic heart-shaped piece comes from about 2 meters deep from the entrance on the lower left side. It comes from the small pocket in September 2011 that saved our collecting season after over 20 unsuccessful tours (also WE 9-14 and WE 9-31). The specimen is colored transparent cyan to greenish; the fluorites crystals are up to 4.5 cm. The surfaces are high-gloss and shiny due to the fine square texture. The edges are multiple stepped, also with a very nice square texture. A second generation of smaller high-gloss light purple fluorites has grown in some areas on the large fluorites. Individual bright calcites make the piece even more attractive and can be seen as a distinctive feature of the Weisseck.
Size: 20 x 19.5 x 12 cm
