Fluorite
WE 9–2, 2009
Location:
Ice Cleft, Weisseck, Lungau, Salzburg, Austria
Description:
Not a typical fluorite habit! This is a very unique fluorite specimen from the Ice Cleft. The transparent elongated "cube" - up to 8 cm - shows high-gloss surfaces with a multi-stepped edge structure. A dark phantom on each elongated side is another special feature. The piece comes from a small cavity in a green fluorite vein that I worked on the ground in 2009 about two meters deep from the entrance area. The fluorite vein opened selectively in the middle and was crystallized there. Here too, we had to work with patience because the cavity was also filled with ice. Only two pieces were found like this (see WE 9-23). WE 9-16, WE 9-17, WE 9-35 and WE 9-42 also come from this green fluorite vein, but from different small cavities which, in spite of the them being but a few centimeters from each other, yielded completely different forms of crystallization. This piece was published in The Mineralogical Record, Eureka Supplement, May-June 2022.
Size: 10.3 x 9.5 x 4.7 cm
