Quartz

DI 32, March 2003

Location:

Zederhaus, Lungau, Salzburg, Austria

Description:

A large double terminated quartz crystal of over 20 cm in length with additional, smaller, double terminated quartz crystals. The specimen shows two chlorite-green colored surfaces that are partially covered with a second generation of quartz crystals and chlorite. The other surfaces are characterized by a snowy layer and are partially covered with a second generation of quartz crystals and small calcites. This layer reaches to the edges of the prisms where it suddenly ends, as if cut off. The tops are highly lustrous and clear. This piece was under a large green schist stone, causing some of the small quartz crystals to break off.

Size: 20.5 x 7.5 x 6 cm
