233 Hessonite with Clinochlore and Vesuvianite
Borne del Brous, Ala di Stura, Ala Valley, Lanzo Valleys, Torino Province, Piedmont, Italy
Highly lustrous hessonite crystals with dark cherry-red color crowded over one side of a matrix face. Italy has some of the best Alpine garnets of the world. Look at the pictures: The crystals are so transparent and shiny – they show their fire and the gemmy quality in natural light. The crystals twinkle like bright stars as they catch and reflect the light. There are also some gray-green densely packed books of clinochlore on the hessonite. The specimen is selectively overgrown with smaller and larger vesuvianites (up to 1.5 cm long). Well crystallized as floater specimen – no significant damage to report. Very hard to catch in a picture – much better in real life!
