232 Hessonite and Clinochlore
Borne del Brous, Ala di Stura, Ala Valley, Lanzo Valleys, Torino Province, Piedmont, Italy
Highly lustrous hessonite crystals with dark cherry-red color crowded over one side of a matrix face. Italy has some of the best Alpine garnets in the world. Look at the pictures: The crystals are so transparent and shiny – they show their fire and the gemmy quality in natural light. The crystals twinkle like bright stars as they catch and reflect the light. There are also some gray-green densely packed books of clinochlore on the hessonite. The backside of this wonderful specimen is well crystalized. Very hard to catch in a picture – much better in real life!
