030 Fluorite, Calcite
Weisseck, Lungau, Salzburg, Austria
The specimen was mined directly after the passage of clay. Usually nearly all specimen show strong etching - not so here, the specimen shows an uncommon high quality of the surface. The faces feature satiny luster. Many specimen from Summit Cleft need strong spots for backlight to show internal color. Better specimen need only moderately backlight. But the really good pieces need only light background and even the light from a window on a cloudy day is enough to let them glow inside. The first two images where done without any artificial light source. The fluorite has a square texture and shows an intensive translucent color, with zoning along edges. Even without backlit the crystals show amazing outstanding blue-green color. Light calcites are located in a model form on the fluorite! Undamaged, the backside was extracted from the rock.
